Article Review on the Selection of a Juror for a Trial
Article Review ONE: The general issue in this paragraph relates to the lack of impartiality when it comes to the selection of a juror for a trial. Potential jurors exposed to publicity prior to the trial form opinions about the victims and defendants. TWO: Whether the defendant is attractive or not has an impact on whether the jury will rule for or against that defendant. The bottom line is that attractive defendants generally get a better deal from juries because of the belief that good-looking people are more likely to have socially acceptable behaviors. The nature of the alleged crime determines whether or not the attractiveness of the defendant is influential in the verdict. THREE: When it comes to jurors passing judgment based on the appearance of the defendant, jurors that share common physical characteristics with defendants tend to be lenient towards that defendant. There can be positive biases in female jurors towards attractive male defendants but that isnt the case with males judging other males or females. FOUR: The ethnicity (race) of the defendant plays a role as to whether jurors treat the defendant more or less harshly. FIVE: On page 606 the authors offer two hypotheses. SIX: 207 participants were involved (89 black; 55 Latino; 63 Caucasian). SEVEN: In the second paragraph on page 607 the vignette was explained. The Simpsons vs South Park Free Essays
By contrast South Park relies on our knowledge of subjects outside the realm of elevation. South Parkââ¬â¢s humor is heavily dependent on the fact that its audience is consuming media and observing culture outside of traditional television shows. The Simpson family is, literally, a middle American family. We will write a custom essay sample on The Simpsons vs South Park or any similar topic only for you Order Now The town in which they live, ââ¬Å"Springfieldâ⬠Is constantly shown to be In the center of the country in any of the shows maps. The family consists of Homer and Marge, heââ¬â¢s an overweight, undereducated couch potato and sheââ¬â¢s the long suffering loving wife. Together they have three children Bart, Lisa and Maggie. The trouble-maker, straight a student and doodler respectively, just the composition of this family shows that the creators are seeking to lampoon the average American family. The stupidity of Homer and the childrenââ¬â¢s antics and the ridiculous nature of the world around them are strictly for laughs. In show advertisements mock sexism and religion in American culture. Within the show, the television often reflects criticism of news and popular action movies and issues of children and violence. But for all this satire, there is not much bark to the Simpson bite. The show itself must depend on advertisement revenue. Its network, FOX, Is one of the Top 4 networks In the country. In the late assââ¬â¢s, the Image of Bart Simpson was synonymous with Butterfingers candy bars. There were two music Cadââ¬â¢s released with official music videos, that would play at the end of the episodes. Itââ¬â¢s parody too point. And Its parody that many Americanââ¬â¢s are well aware of already. Itââ¬â¢s as if the creators wink and nudge at the audience and say ââ¬ËYouââ¬â¢re smart and we know it. Now please, buy our products. â⬠South Park attempts to do something beyond just simple parody of our consumption and violence. Trey Parker and Matt Stone attempt to create new meaning out what we have already viewed. The very meaning of the parody is derived from what you already know of the target of ridicule. This is what Jerkiest and Fiske refer to as intellectuality. They attempt to relate the Simpson to this dynamic but I believe this realm is where South Park is actually operating. The Simpson may use this intellectuality when playing with genre, but South Park uses it when conveying the very meaning of the parody. Even this season alone, South Park had covered the topics of social media sites Like Faceable, celebrates and sex scandals and the hypocrisies of the media concerning such events, and marijuana legalization debate. All of these topics are lampooned by critiquing the mediaââ¬â¢s covered and both sides of the social and political debate on TV. You have to be critically aware to understand the finer points of South Parks humor that lies beneath the crude language and crass Jokes. The irony is that those that think Homer Simpson is a cutting edge satire of American life, are most likely a carbon copy of Homer himself. Itââ¬â¢s easy to criticize South Park on the surface, but those that are media literate will ââ¬Å"get the Jokeâ⬠more than its critics. The Simpson are entertaining but ultimately, too safe. Threats of new entrants: Every potential and capable entrant into telecommunication and mobile industry has required a license issued by the telecommunication authority of Sing Singapore. However, the license is restricted by the government in Singapore. Additionally, the new entrants can measure and evaluate the sufficiency of financial resources. It helps to survive the trading operations in the future. Apart from this, the company should use unique leadership styles to influence the subordinates in an organization. It will also help to handle the grievances and complaints of the employees. The organization must focus on the business level strategies and corporate level strategies to maximize the revenue and outputs. It helps to maintain sustainability within the organization. The employees resist the organizational change thus, SingTel should focus on the resistance to change to run the activities and operations successfully. The workers do not want to adopt new technologies and changes because they avoid the work. In this way, managers and top management should maintain a reciprocal relationship with employees to resolve their problems and issues. The firm should make attractive strategies to connect and listen with customers and another businessman with dignity and respectfully. It also provides support to estimate and understand their needs and wants to do business effectively and powerfully. Along with this, SingTel should fight always to become the first to introduce and produce new products and technology within the organization. Moreover, the firm must always take strong preparations and precautions in their network system to improve the services and to provide satisfaction to the customers. In this way, the organization can retain and increase the number of customers in near future. The firm should also focus on advertisement and promotional strategies to increase sales and profitability of the firm. Conclusion On the above-mentioned study, it has been analyzed and concluded that SingTel is the well known biggest telecommunication industry. It is the biggest mobile operator in Asia. The reason behind the success and growth of the firm is their potential and capable customers. The firm focuses on needs, requirements, and desires of the customers to attract and retain a wide range of customers. The organization will have to maintain their effort and capability to catch up with community and world. Currently, the firm has expanded and flourished its business in more than 20 countries. Birth or Death? or Neither? ââ¬Å"I should be glad of another death,â⬠says the speaker in the last line of ââ¬Å"Journey of the Magi,â⬠written by T.S. Eliot. In the depth of detailing this line, there is a question of what circumstance or incident would make an individual consider it death and be glad for the final death of life? In the first stanza of the poem, the speaker describes a cold winter, such a long, hard journey through the roughest of grounds (3-5). Even the camels are exhausted and sore-footed (6). The speaker continues to describe the events which make this journey questionable. For example, there is a lack of shelters, unsanitary conditions in the villages and a lack of friendliness among the residents in the towns and cities (13-15). As the journey proceeds, they decide to travel all night and sleep in shifts in hopes of reaching their destination quickly (17-18). They arrive at a valley and believe they have reached their sight (21). It is wet and smells of vegetation (22). It even has a running stream, a water-mill, trees and an old white horse (23-25). These are all conditions of a civilized and peaceful environment. However, when they arrive at a tavern which appears to contain lifeless individuals who have no information this allows them to determine that they must move on and continue their journey. The speaker states that, after this long journey, they finally arrive at their destination and are there to witness a birth. He then questions the worthiness of it all and compares it to his own death. The speaker has seen both birth and death as stated in line 37 although he does not fully understand. He accepts the fact of birth but is perplexed by its similarity to this death, and to death which he has seen before. I believe this birth and death leaves the speaker mystified and unaroused to the full splendor of the strange epiphany. In my opinion, I believe this poem refers to the journey of a l... Advertising Management and Brand Delivery Essay
Advertising Management and Brand Delivery - Essay Example Before criticizing statement, one has to understand the perspectives and viewpoint David Ogilvy (who has built one of the largest advertising agencies in the world) in order to address key assignment questions in precise manner (Rieck, 2013). David Ogilvy viewed advertising as the source of promoting products and helping the company to sell items which can help the firm to generate revenue. Consideration of the confession of David Ogilvy in the book named as ââ¬Å"Confessions of an Advertising Manâ⬠reveals the fact that the advertising legend was not even ready to perceive advertising as creative expression which may not have sales impact (Ogilvy, 1988). Ogilvy (1988, p. 43) wrote ââ¬Å"I tell new recruits that I will not allow them to use the word creative to describe the functions they are to perform in the agencyâ⬠in order to his ignorance towards the word creativity. According to Ogilvy (1988), one cannot afford to become creative in advertisement designing for the sake of creativity without producing measurable result because it is responsibility of the advertising firm to take care of the interest of client who is paying for designing the advertisement. Now, the question is whether David Ogilvy was right while stating ââ¬Å"If it doesnââ¬â¢t sell, it isnââ¬â¢t creativeâ⬠or it was a misconception of the advertising legend? At this point of discussion, the essay is in no position to criticize or judge the validity of the statement due to two reasons, 1- the researcher needs to conduct literature review regarding the role of creativity in advertisement in order to get idea of theoretical background of the statement and until then, any judgement will bound to face degree of subjectivity and 2- the concept of creativity is pretty much tacit in nature hence one has to define the characteristics of creativity before making any subjective judgement to statement of David Ogilvy. Therefore, in the next section, the essay will try to answe r the three questions such as, 1- what the role of creativity in advertising is, 2- how creativity can both positively and negatively affect the success of a campaign and 3- how the creative process can be supported by the elements of the creative brief and answering the three questions will help the researcher to criticize David Ogilvyââ¬â¢s statement such as ââ¬Å"If it doesnââ¬â¢t sell, it isnââ¬â¢t creativeâ⬠in non-partial and robust manner. Role of Creativity in Advertising Kawashima (2006) compared advertising campaigns in Japan, US and UK and found significant amount of differences in look, feel and style of television adverts. If advertising is paid form of communication and aim is to just promote product information to customers then why would advertisers need to experiment with form, content and layout? Well, that is a pretty interesting question and answer to the question is linked with need of creativity in advertising space. Kawashima (2006) also found t hat advertisements produced in UK have more cutting edge cutting edge creative production appeals in comparison to advertisements in emerging markets like Brazil, Russia, China, India and South Africa which can be classified as banal calls to attract customers to buy the products. Grabher (2001 and 2002) pointed out that with the increase in competition in globalized economy, marketers are seeking to put more creative quotients in advertisements in order increase brand visibility among customers as against competitors. In the literature regarding advertisement, importance of culture, geo-demographic dispositions on advertisement got greater importance as against literature regard
